Our History
The Essex and Sussex, built in 1914 in one of the most prestigious shore communities in Monmouth County, is often referred to as the Jewel of the Jersey Shore, due to its magnificent architecture and its reputation as a world-class hotel catering to the rich and famous at the turn of the century. After the sale of the hotel in the eighties, the property was re-developed and sold as luxury, year-round condominium units in 2003, leading to the formation of the Essex and Sussex Condominium Association, currently a luxury oceanfront residence for active adults 55 years and older. The building celebrated its Centennial year in 2014.
E&S Units
The Essex & Sussex features 165 uniquely styled condominium residences, many offering breezy outdoor decks with expansive ocean views. Information about purchase or rental of studio and one-bedroom units may be obtained from local realtors. Units are equipped with kitchenettes which include a bar refrigerator, bar sink and microwave. Housekeeping is available upon request.
Amenities
The E&S is well known for its world class hospitality services that include 24-hour Concierge Service, Valet Parking, direct beach access, complimentary chairs and umbrellas and weekend beach staff. The E&S also offers fine dining, in an elegantly appointed Dining Room and adjacent Lounge, a Bistro, Library, Media Room, Card Room, Billiards Room, Activities Room, Internet Lounge, Fitness Center, Beauty Salon, Multipurpose Rooms and Terrace Level seating areas with fireplaces.
Fine Dining
The Essex and Sussex Dining Room offers exceptional dining experiences in an atmosphere of turn of the century elegance. Dining service includes daily breakfast, lunch and dinner, room service and the option to host intimate gatherings in a Private Dining Room. While the Dining Room and Lounge are opened only to residents and their personal guests, residents may sponsor outside dining guests and those interested in holding other events, including weddings and banquets.
